The collector's body is made from odds and ends of beads and bits of wire; his wings from a fragment of sheer sari silk. His little people are just wrapped wool tassels. He sits on the edge of his box, adding his latest acquisition to his collection. This is his prize, the blue colour and the gold crown show that he has at last managed to find a specimen of royal blood.

So, is this ART or WHAT?

I think that labels have become way too difficult. Just enjoy what you are doing. There's always someone out there in the world who will also find your work fascinating. You know that "there's someone for everyone" philosophy.

Something that is considered a craft item may be infinitely more appealing than a fine art work. Intention behind the creation of the work is part of what makes "professional critics" label it one thing or another. I know plenty of artists with degrees and the quality of their work is very low. The hot thing is outsider art by unschooled creators. It's seen as passionate. What's the difference between craft and folk art. It just goes on and on and on. I simply don't care anymore.

Hi Kay Susan!

Yes, I consider it to be art rather than a craft. But art is subjective so what I consider to be art isn't necessarily what others consider as art. Personally, I'm not usually attracted to art that "says something".

As Sonji pointed out, it's the passion that I'm attracted to. Passion, when expressed well, shines through like a diamond in a box of rocks! What I see is that you love what you do. That's all that matters.

I really love your bug! He's quite charming, very unusual and I would consider him to be art!

Oh, I think he's MAGNIFICENT! I think it's very artistic and shows a knowledge of art - I also really enjoy Cornell (I saw a huge exhibit of his work in Chicago years ago) and think this is a great interpretation.
I'm constantly surprised that anyone thinks lines need to be drawn. The worst someone can do is not put any thought or skill into it - now that's not art. Otherwise, it's a "free for all!"...but that's my opinion!
